mission & objectives

The Human Systems Integration in Healthcare lab is guided by a mission to improve patient safety by expanding understanding of human system interaction in healthcare. To accomplish this mission, the lab aims to:

  • Shed new light on the interaction between the professional operators and the healthcare system.
Develop, foster, and expand comprehensive research that increases our understanding of the healthcare environment and the role of clinicians in this setting. Research will contribute to improvements to the overall system.

  • Educate a new generation of practitioners.
The lab aims to support and encourage young researchers from various disciplines to add their voice and perspective to the HSI process in healthcare. The lab will also promote teaching and training in associated areas, particularly via masters, doctoral, and post-doctoral fellowships. These efforts will help to shape the field by inspiring and educating the next generation of practitioners, researchers, and educators, committed to implementing HIS as a means of improving healthcare systems.

  • Foster collaboration.
The lab will promote collaboration across varied disciplines. It will foster collaborative ventures between the lab’s researchers and collaborators from other research centers, leading scholars, and institutions in Israel and abroad; and promote the sharing of knowledge, advice, and experience for the benefit of all.

  • Contribute to public policy, public awareness, and education.
The lab will serve as a catalyst for change by disseminating scientific knowledge and conducting research with policy applications and the potential to serve the public interest by promoting positive change in healthcare systems, through national and international conferences, workshops and seminars.

  • Offer services to industry.
The lab will provide services such as formative and summative testing to companies that develop medical devices. These services will help Israeli medical device companies develop and design products suitable for global markets. Such academic-industry partnerships will foster additional collaboration and help the lab identify new services to offer.

There are significant challenges associated with complex healthcare systems, particularly the interaction between the professional operators and such systems, and the objectives mentioned above will help address these issues and contribute to a reduction of adverse events and improved care.
